THE HIS WAY MINISTRY PROGRAM
The objective of His Way Ministry is to promote successful re-entry of ex-offenders into society. The ministry offers life skill development and spiritual transformation. The essence of our ministry is to develop a Christian community of brothers and sisters that welcomes ex-offenders to join us as we all struggle to find a better life. We walk together seeking the humility to be guided in what is right so that we can learn to give up OUR WAY and to follow our heavenly FATHER’S WAY.
One need not be a Christian to participate in His Way Ministry. The only requirement is to be open minded and cooperative. The ministry team will not embarrass or coerce seekers, but will offer guidance in living life on life’s terms. It will offer a path for a new or deeper relationship with our Lord and Savior.
The His Way Ministry program has two phases: Pre-release and Post Release. The Pre-release Phase is a weekly fellowship in the prison and is a time of preparation for freedom. Planning, preparation, and decision making skills are emphasized and developed. EXODUS, an introductory three-day experience, is a joyous time of learning and fellowship. It provides a method for beginning a new life free from the bondage of sin. The Post Release Phase encourages continuation of the tools and faith changes discovered in the Pre-release Phase.
If ex-offenders elect to come to Charleston, SC, a loving spiritual family of former inmates and others will greet them. A weekly sharing group is available for accountability and exchange of ideas and information. Mentors are available to provide advice and recommendations based on experience and knowledge of similar situations. Occasional community service projects are offered. From time to time His Way Ministry ex-offenders share their life experiences to groups, such as students and community organizations. These activities provide a positive contribution to society and hopefully provide insight to those who may be on the wrong path.
His Way Ministry has a total annual budget between one and two thousand dollars contributed by its members, civic groups, churches, and charities. His Way Ministry does not receive any money from any government source. It does not have deep pockets. There are no paid staff members.
If the ex-offender comes to Charleston, SC and is in contact with the ministry, the ministry will assist in the process of finding food, shelter, employment, medical care, clothing, public transportation, etc. The operative word is HELP. We can assist with finding the sources for these vital needs but we do not supply them. His Way Ministry wants to be a brother to the ex-offender as we walk together meeting the challenges and opportunities of a life in Christ.
